First Grade

Deep Hope

My deep hope for my first graders is that our room is a love-filled place  of curious thinkers and courageous designers. A peaceful place of joy-filled collaborators and gracious communicators who focus on God over all, through all, and in all— empowering them to bring heaven to earth on purpose.   Ephesians 4:6

Professional Biography

After graduating from Calvin College, my first teaching assignment was in McBain, Michigan. I taught first grade and kindergarten. I received my Continuing Teaching certificate from Central Michigan University.

After moving to Zeeland, I worked as a paraprofessional in preschool at Zeeland Christian. Soon I began teaching preschool and moved through grade levels teaching kindergarten, first and second grade. In 2010, I was welcomed into the Allendale Christian Community as a guest teacher, kindergarten and first-grade teacher. I gratefully continue to enjoy and awe in God’s blessings here.

Personal Biography

I grew up in the Zeeland area and met my husband Bruce during my first assignment at Northern Michigan Christian in McBain. I’m grateful to have a deep heritage in Christian Education. My Great Grandfather was the founder and, at one point, was sole provider of Western Christian in Hull, Iowa.  I consider it a deep privilege to know God’s provision for tuition with my own children and hear of His blessings to families of my students. God’s faithfulness continues from generation to generation. We have 3 adult children and a lovely daughter-in-law who continue to fill our lives as we see them living out God’s purpose. When I am not engaged in my teaching, Bruce and I enjoy theater, traveling, walking, reading, and cottage fun.  We are gratefully a part of God’s people at Haven Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland.
