As a librarian, my desire is to encourage students to appreciate and develop the gift of reading. I am passionate about reading, and I strive to pass that passion on to students of all grade levels.
As the PEAK teacher, I consider it a privilege to work with high-ability students in grades 3-7. Again, I see my role as an encourager for this group of students as they pursue using their gifts and talents to the best of their ability.
My educational background includes a BA from Calvin College in education and a Master’s Degree in classroom teaching from Michigan State University. After Calvin, I taught 1st grade for six years and then spent a number of years at home while my children were young. During that time, I had an in-home tutoring business, working with children anywhere from 1st grade through 12th grade. In 1998, I returned to the school setting at Hudsonville Christian Middle School where I spent two years as a paraprofessional in the resource room and six years teaching language arts classes. I started at Allendale Christian in 2006 and spent many years teaching middle school language arts, social studies, and Bible. I am now working part time as librarian and PEAK instructor. I am thoroughly enjoying working with students of all ages and passing along my love for reading and learning each day!
My husband, Randy, and I moved to the Grand Haven/Allendale area several years ago. We love being a part of the community here! We have two adult children. Our son Nathan, his wife Lynette, and their daughter, Sophie Grace, live in Grand Rapids. Sophie is our first grandchild; she fills our hearts with endless joy and delight! Nathan works for GMB as a mechanical engineer, and Lynette works for C2AE as a graphic designer. Our daughter, AnaIsa, now lives in Allendale. She works at Everett’s Gardens in Byron Center. As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities, watching sports, traveling, and camping. My personal hobbies include reading (very fitting for a librarian!), walking, and indoor and outdoor plants. We are members of Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven.
